I work in a small company that is doing makeovers in server rooms all around the country. We are doing everything from small works to exchanging whole equipment in bigger server rooms. I work there as a younger IT specialist and my task is to install and check the ventilation and fan systems in server racks. Some time ago we had a very serious client that wanted to improve his server room due to constant problems with overheating of the servers. I must say that it was the biggest task that I was taking part in. It was a very important job for us. Meanwhile our client secured his data and he rented a server room for the time of the makeover. The server room was a kind of old school one and to be honest it looked not so well. Al the cables and wires were running on the walls and the cooling system was very old. The equipment inside the server racks was new and well working but the older stuff responsible for cooling like fans was too small or was not properly mounted. After checking the server room we decided with the owner of the company that we need to use the floor as a main base for cables and cooling system. We had to remove all the server racks from the server room and only then we were able to make this place more modern. After that we turned the floor into a transferring and cooling system at the same time. It took more than a month to make all systems work properly but it was worth it. Thanks to that our client was very pleased and we fulfilled another difficult task.
